Example: one dev implemented a compromise reload, tap for a fast reload, but emptying the mag causes a jam and much slower refill. The odd weapon Kettle also started as a personal experiment. Many pitches get discarded, but that bottom-up, almost "guerrilla" tinkering frequently produces mechanics that end up better than the originals.
