Where do the parts and prices come from?
From an open PCPartPicker dataset published under the MIT license. It is a snapshot, not a live feed: prices are in US dollars and were correct on the date shown under the build total. Check a retailer before buying.
Which conflicts does it actually catch?
CPU socket against the board socket, memory generation and module count against the board, board form factor against the case, GPU length and radiator size against the case class, and power-supply wattage against the estimated draw. Cases in the dataset do not publish a maximum GPU length, so clearance is a warning based on the case class rather than a hard limit.
Is the wattage figure a measurement?
No. It adds board and fan overhead to the rated power of the CPU and graphics card plus a small allowance per drive and memory module, then sizes a supply to run at about 60 percent of that peak. Real draw depends on the workload and on how far the parts are overclocked.
